Agricultural statistics are key to the measurement of the performance of the agricultural sector. In general, the data are used for food security, green economy and environmental studies. The information will be mostly used for decision making, planning, research and the measurement of food security and employment in the sector.

Agri SA has been part of the legislative advocacy that promote sustainable agriculture. Various legislations have been passed in this regard, some aimed at promoting participation by the previously disadvantaged groups in the agricultural industry, such as the AgriBEE Sector Code, gazetted in November 2012. The success of such programs, together with the overall land reform program in South Africa, requires participation of both the public and the private sector. This survey gives a glimpse of what Agri SA and its affiliates have contributed towards achieving the overall goal of transformation.
